This community service activity aims to improve the understanding, professional
competence, and academic literacy culture of educators and educational staff
through the implementation of a Book Review on Educational Planning. The
activity was conducted on June 15, 2026, at the Palembang Religious Education
and Training Center, involving teachers, madrasah principals, supervisors,
instructors, and educational staff within the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The
implementation method used a participatory approach consisting of three stages:
planning, implementation, and evaluation and closing activities. Data were
collected through observation, documentation, and participant satisfaction
questionnaires, then analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis. The results
showed that systematic planning based on needs analysis supported the smooth
implementation of the program. During the implementation stage, the book review
model successfully created interactive learning through material presentation,
academic discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and reflections, enabling
participants to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the concepts and
implementation of educational planning. The evaluation results indicated a high
level of participant involvement and satisfaction, increased conceptual
understanding of educational planning, development of academic literacy culture,
and growing commitment among participants to implement the learning outcomes
in developing educational programs within their respective institutions. This
activity demonstrates that book review activities are an effective community
service strategy for disseminating knowledge, strengthening professional
competence, and promoting collaborative learning. Therefore, this model deserves
to be developed sustainably through mentoring programs and professional
learning communities to support the improvement of educational planning and
management quality.
