Abstract

The contributions of Muslim scientists to the development of modern science constitute a crucial part of the history of world civilization that often receives insufficient attention. During the Golden Age of Islam, between the 8th and 14th centuries, the Islamic world became a center of scientific development, producing numerous prominent scientists in the fields of mathematics, astronomy, medicine, physics, chemistry, and philosophy. This article aims to examine the contributions of Muslim scientists in building the foundations of modern science and the influence of their thinking on the development of contemporary science. This research uses a library research method by examining various primary and secondary sources related to the history of Islamic science and the development of modern science. The results of the study indicate that Muslim scientists such as Al-Khwarizmi made significant contributions to the development of algebra and algorithms, Ibn Sina in medicine, Ibn al-Haytham in scientific experimental methods and optics, and Jabir ibn Hayyan in the development of chemistry. Their thoughts and works became primary references for European scientists during the Renaissance and played a role in the birth of the modern scientific revolution. In addition to producing various important theories and discoveries, Muslim scientists also developed a research tradition that emphasized observation, experimentation, and scientific rationality. Thus, the contributions of Muslim scientists not only influenced the development of science during their time but also laid a crucial foundation for the advancement of modern science. This study confirms that the development of modern science is the result of the accumulation of knowledge across civilizations, involving significant contributions from Muslim scientists.
