The methodology of Qur’anic interpretation (Tafsir Al-Qur’an)
is an important discipline in Islamic studies that aims to
understand, explain, and reveal the meanings contained in the
verses of the Qur’an. As the Qur’an serves as a fundamental
source of guidance for Muslims, understanding its messages
requires systematic approaches and appropriate methods. This
article aims to examine the concept, development, and various
methodologies used in interpreting the Qur’an. The research
method applied in this study is a qualitative approach using
library research by analyzing books, classical and contemporary
tafsir works, as well as academic literature related to Qur’anic
interpretation. The findings show that the methodology of
Qur’anic interpretation has developed through various
approaches, including tafsir bi al-ma’tsur (interpretation based
on transmitted sources), tafsir bi al-ra’yi (interpretation based on
rational analysis), and other systematic methods such as tahlili
(analytical), ijmali (global), muqaran (comparative), and
maudhu’i (thematic) interpretation. Each method has its own
characteristics, advantages, and limitations in explaining the
meaning of Qur’anic verses. The diversity of these methods
demonstrates the flexibility of Islamic intellectual tradition in
responding to changing contexts while maintaining the
authenticity of Qur’anic messages. The implementation of proper
tafsir methodology requires mastery of Arabic language,
Qur’anic sciences, hadith, historical context, and Islamic
principles. Therefore, methodological understanding is essential
to prevent misinterpretation and to produce interpretations that
are relevant to contemporary challenges. Through a
comprehensive tafsir methodology, the Qur’an can continue to
serve as a source of knowledge, guidance, and solutions for
human life.
