Abstract

This article discusses the interpretation of Qur’anic verses
related to the concept of amar ma’ruf nahi munkar as an
important principle in Islamic teachings. Amar ma’ruf nahi
munkar means encouraging people to do good deeds and
preventing actions that are contrary to Islamic values. This
concept reflects the responsibility of Muslims in creating a
moral, ethical, and civilized society. The Qur’an explains that
inviting toward goodness and preventing wrongdoing is not only
an individual obligation but also a social responsibility that aims
to maintain human welfare. This study aims to analyze the
meanings, values, and implementation of amar ma’ruf nahi
munkar based on Qur’anic verses and interpretations of Islamic
scholars. The research uses a qualitative method with a
literature review approach by examining primary sources from
the Qur’an and secondary sources from classical and
contemporary tafsir books, academic journals, and related
studies. Several verses become the focus of analysis, including
QS. Ali ‘Imran verse 104, QS. Ali ‘Imran verse 110, and other
verses discussing the responsibility of Muslims in promoting
goodness and preventing evil. The results show that amar ma’ruf
nahi munkar contains educational, social, and moral values. The
implementation of this principle must be carried out with
wisdom, knowledge, patience, and compassion, not through
violence or coercion. In the Qur’anic perspective, the purpose of
amar ma’ruf nahi munkar is to build individuals with noble
character and create a society based on justice, goodness, and
responsibility. Therefore, understanding the interpretation of
these verses is essential in responding to contemporary moral
challenges and strengthening Islamic ethical values in daily life.
