Abstract

The concept of human beings in Islam is a fundamental
discussion that explains the position, purpose, and
responsibilities of humans in the perspective of Islamic
teachings. This article aims to analyze the essence of humans
based on the Qur’an and Hadith, focusing on humans as servants
of Allah (‘abdullah) and as His representatives (khalifah) on
earth. In Islamic thought, humans are created with physical,
spiritual, intellectual, and moral dimensions that distinguish
them from other creatures. Humans are not only biological
beings but also spiritual entities who possess reason and free will
to carry out their responsibilities according to divine guidance.
The study employs a qualitative approach using the library
research method by examining various references related to
Islamic anthropology, Qur’anic interpretations, and Islamic
philosophical perspectives. The findings indicate that the concept
of humans in Islam emphasizes the balance between worldly life
and spiritual obligations. As servants of Allah, humans are
required to worship and obey Him, while as khalifah, humans
are responsible for managing the earth, maintaining justice, and
creating social welfare. Furthermore, humans are viewed as
noble creatures who have been granted knowledge, intellect, and
moral awareness to develop themselves and contribute positively
to society. The Islamic view of humans rejects the separation
between material and spiritual aspects, highlighting that human
perfection is achieved through faith, knowledge, and righteous
actions. This study concludes that understanding the concept of
humans in Islam provides a comprehensive framework for
shaping human character, ethics, and responsibilities in
individual and social life.
