Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the role of the principal's academic supervision in improving teacher professionalism at Ulumusi 5 Public Elementary School. Academic supervision is a form of guidance provided by the principal to help teachers improve the quality of learning through continuous supervision, mentoring, motivation, consultation, and evaluation. Teacher professionalism is a crucial factor in improving the quality of education because learning success is largely determined by the teacher's ability to plan, implement, and evaluate the learning process effectively. Therefore, the principal plays a strategic role in fostering teacher development through targeted and systematic supervision. This study used a qualitative, descriptive approach. The research subjects included the principal, vice principal, and teachers. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. Observations were used to observe the implementation of supervision and the learning process, interviews to obtain in-depth information, and documentation to supplement data in the form of programs, schedules, instruments, and supervision reports. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions, with data validity tested through triangulation of sources and techniques. The results indicate that the principal plays a significant role in improving teacher professionalism. These roles include acting as a supervisor through classroom observations and feedback, acting as a motivator by offering encouragement and appreciation, acting as a consultant to help resolve learning challenges, and acting as an evaluator who conducts assessments and provides recommendations for improvement. Planned and ongoing supervision has a positive impact on improving teacher professionalism and the quality of learning.
